Walkabout Print E-mail

hillThroughout scripture God's people have been not only called, but driven into wilderness experiences where they met face to face with the God who created them and desperately wanted to speak to the very heart which he created. It was a uniquely intimate encoutner with God that spoke deeply to the very purpose for which man was created. Each summer Greenville College's student leaders, in modeling after our desert fathers, are called - dare I say driven - to a wilderness encounter with our creator. This encounter changes our students in incredible ways and prepares them like nothing else for a life of service and Kingdom work.

What some students have to say:

"Walkabout stretched me emotionally and physically. My emotional walls were broken down and I was able to make lasting memories. I truly miss the time we spent setting up camp and talking around the fire."
- Carrie Dickenson, Resident Chaplain

mountains "Walkabout takes our physical and mental bodies and demands that we move down the trails as well as moving on the road of our Christian journey. It brings us to our knees at the end of the day when we are open to share our lives with others."
- Nic Leibham, Resident Chaplain

"Through the fear of not knowing where the road was leading, or what was to come, we were able to do only one thing, trust in Jesus and each other. Walkabout pushes many of our limits with nowhere to go, except to turn our focus UP."
- A current Resident Chaplain

"Walkabout had a significant value on my idea of solitude. It showed me that time in solitude enables me to better appreciate God's plan for my life. Walkabout also taught me to value my relationships with others and learn how to be a better member of a team."
- Meredith McDaniel, Student Body President
