Dr. MaryAnn Janosik To Speak At Faculty Colloquium |

Dr.
MaryAnn Janosik will be our guest speaker for a faculty colloquium on Friday,
March 23 at 3:30pm in Snyder 104. The title of Dr. Janosik’s lecture will
be "It's
Only Rock 'n' Roll: The Importance and Relevance of Academic Study in Popular
Music."
MaryAnn Janosik is Dean (and an
associate professor of history) at Ohio University Lancaster. Previously, she
was dean of the social sciences and business division at Oakton Community
College, outside of Chicago. She received her Ph.D. in American Social History
and Policy from Case Western Reserve University, and also holds a B.A. (Oberlin
College) and M.A. (Cleveland State University) in history. Prior to becoming a
dean, she served as Director of Education at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and
Museum in Cleveland, OH and held rank as an associate professor of history and
director of interdisciplinary initiatives at Lake Erie College. Her research in
American popular culture has earned her several awards, including first place
from the National Catholic Press Association for her article “Madonnas in Our
Midst: Representations of Women Religious in American Film” (1998). An area
chair to the Mid-West Popular Culture Association, Janosik has also been
recognized for her work in the classroom, receiving the Roger and Anne Clapp
Award for “Excellence in Teaching” in 1995. She continues to teach
courses and design professional development workshops in the areas of rock
music, American film and popular culture. Greenwood Press recently published
her volume, The Video Generation: Rock Music in America ~ 1981-1990, as
part of their six-volume series on the history of American rock music.
