GREENVILLE,
Ill. - Greenville
College will conduct its
115th commencement exercises with ceremonies and festivities on
Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13.
The weekend
begins on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
with the commencement luncheon in the Armington Center,
reservations are required. The adult and graduate studies commencement will
then be held in the Crum
Recreation Center
at 2 p.m. Dr. Jim Underwood, president
of Kaskaskia College
in Centralia, Illinois will be delivering the commencement
address.
A
traditional choir concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday in the James E.
Wilson Recital Hall in the Whitlock
Music Center. Also
at 4:30 p.m., a
celebration dinner will begin in the Armington
Center, reservations are
required. Events will continue with the traditional Ivy Cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on the front lawn of Hogue
Hall. Graduating seniors stand in a circle connected by a continuous
strand of ivy. In a silent ceremony, college president Dr. V. James
Mannoia, Jr. will move around the circle, cutting the ivy between each senior
to symbolize a parting of ways.
Festivities
begin on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.
with a commencement breakfast reception at Joy House. Baccalaureate will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the Crum Recreation
Center followed by a commencement luncheon
at noon in the Armington
Center, reservations are
required.
Commencement ceremonies for
traditional graduates will be held at 3
p.m. on Sunday in the Crum
Recreation Center.
The commencement address will be delivered by General Paul A. Rader. Rader and
his wife Kay were commissioned as officers of The Salvation Army and appointed
to Korea.
The Raders served there for 22 years and returned to the United States
in 1983. Rader also served as the worldwide leader of The Salvation Army for
five years.
Greenville
College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than
1450 traditional undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree completion
students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church,
the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
