Greenville College Announces Speakers for Commencement Ceremonies |

GREENVILLE, Ill. - This weekend marks Greenville College’s 115th Commencement exercises. Festivities for Organizational Leadership and graduate students begin at 2:00 p.m. on May 12, in the Crum Recreation Center with Dr. Jim Underwood, president of Kaskaskia College, delivering the Commencement address.
The Commencement ceremonies for traditional graduates will begin at 3 p.m. on May 13 in the Crum Recreation Center. General Paul A. Rader, retired general for The Salvation Army, will be addressing the graduates.
Dr. Jim Underwood
Dr. Underwood received Master of Business Administration and Doctor of Higher Education degrees at the University of Arkansas after earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska. Since 1970, his administrative experiences have included a 14-year role as vice president of Administrative Services at Central Community College, vice president of Finance & Administration at the University of Arkansas, vice president of Instruction at Richland Community College, and president of Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Neb. After thirty-seven years of service in higher education, Underwood now serves as president of Kaskaskia College.
In addition to these accomplishments, Underwood is a retired Lt. Col. in the United States Army and Vietnam War veteran with 13 medals for Military service.
Dr. Underwood is also a member of the Crossroads Workforce Investment Board, Red Cross Board, South Central Illinois Growth Alliance, and serves as president of the board of directors of the Centralia Chamber of Commerce.
Gen. Paul A. Rader
General Rader will be speaking at commencement for traditional students beginning at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 13, 2007. Rader served as the worldwide leader of The Salvation Army from 1994-1999. He earned his undergraduate degree from Asbury College going on to study at Asbury Theological Seminary and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, graduating with Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees. Gen. Rader then went on to Fuller Theological Seminary in California where he earned a doctorate in Missiology.
After receiving training at The Salvation Army School for Officer Training in New York, Rader and his wife Kay were commissioned as officers and appointed to Korea. The Raders served there for 22 years returning to the United States in 1983. In 1989, they were appointed territorial leaders for the USA Western Territory, responsible for The Salvation Army’s work in 13 Western states.
In 1994, the Raders became the international leaders of The Salvation Army, commissioned to travel the world spreading The Army’s mission to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human needs in his name.
Gen. Rader has received honorary doctorates from Asbury Theological Seminary (D.D.), Greenville College (L.H.D.) and Roberts Wesleyan College (D.D.). In 1998, Rader was awarded the Order of Diplomatic Service Merit, Gwanghwa medal by President Kim Dae-jung of the Republic of Korea, ‘for distinguished service in the field of mission to the Republic of Korea and the world.’
The Raders retired as international leaders of The Salvation Army in July 1999 and made their home in Lexington, Ky. Soon after their return, Dr. Rader was elected to the presidency of their alma mater, Asbury College. Rader served there from 2000 to 2006 when he again retired.
Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1450 traditional undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree completion students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
