Graduate Evangeline Hartley Award Recipient
GREENVILLE,
ILL. – Evangeline Hartley received the President’s Citation Award
during the 115th Greenville College commencement exercises this Sunday.
She is the daughter of Dr. Brian and Mrs. Darlene Hartley. Dr. Brian
Hartley is the chair of the Philosophy and Religion department at GC.
The
President’s Citation is awarded each year to the graduating senior who
has demonstrated the highest academic achievement in the context of a
Christian liberal arts program. To be eligible for this award, the
student must have completed a bachelor’s degree program at Greenville
College and adhered consistently to the ideals of the institution.
Dr.
Karlene Johnson, assistant professor of Math and Science Education,
described Hartley as “an exceptional learner. [She] is well-prepared
for class and already comes with ideas/questions in mind. She processed
everything that happened in class in “real time” and responded with
thoughtful insights or deep questions.”
Veronica Ross, chair of
the Communication department said of Hartley, “Evangeline is the
perfect candidate. She has made the most wonderful Junior Class
President and then Senior Class President. She is a brilliant student,
and she is going to make the most wonderful teacher. Evangeline is
organized and always prepared for each and every task. She’s a winner.”
The
plaque that Evangeline received says this: President’s Citation
Presented to Evangeline Athena Hartley For Outstanding Academic
Achievement At Greenville College.
Greenville College is a
four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1450
traditional undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree completion
students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist
Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east
of St. Louis.
