Greenville College Homecoming and Parents' Weekend Set for October 21-23
Concerts, Dedications and Sporting Events Planned
GREENVILLE
, ILL. – A Friday morning Homecoming chapel featuring
songwriter/producer Matt Bronleewe, various sporting events, and
concerts highlighting GC talent, BDA, Stephanie Smith, and Solafide and
much more highlight the annual Homecoming and Parents' Weekend Friday
through Sunday, October 21-23, at Greenville College.
Activities for the public begin Friday, October 21, with Homecoming
chapel at the Free Methodist Church. Songwriter/producer Matt Bronleewe
will be awarded the college's young alumnus award and the give the
chapel address. Most recently Bonleewe co-wrote and co-produced
“Healing Rain” with Michael W. Smith, a single and CD nominated for
multiple Dove awards in 2005.
The music department begins an evening of song with a departmental concert beginning in the Music Center at 7:30 p.m.
At 9:00 pm the Men's Alumni Volleyball game will be held din the H.J. Long Gymnasium.
A
full schedule of activities is planned for Saturday. The day begins at
8:30 a.m. with the Panther 5k. Anyone can participate for a $10
registration fee, which covers prizes and a commemorative t-shirt.
Participants should gather in the newly remodeled student union between
7:30-8:00 a.m. to register.
Other sporting events
on Saturday will be held throughout the day. At 9 a.m. the men's alumni
soccer game, the women's alumni volleyball, and the women's alumni
softball game kick off. At 11 a.m. athletic events continue with the
women's alumni soccer game and women's alumni basketball game.
The
Education Department will host a departmental reunion in LaDue
Auditorium at 9:00 a.m. The department will celebrate its recent
successful accreditation and award from the Illinois State Board of
Education.
At 10 a.m. the college will dedicate
the Almira College House. Originally constructed in 1855, the house
showcases the largest single collection of works by sculptor Richard W.
Bock. The restoration process has returned the house to its form
grandeur.
Homecoming activities continue with
women's and men's soccer matches will be played at the Francis Field
complex as they face Fontbonne. The women's game kicks off at 1 p.m.
and the men's game follows at 3 p.m.
The G.C. Panther football team will host Concordia, Wis. at 1 p.m. on the football field.
To
wrap up Saturday's sporting events, the men's basketball team will host
an alumni game in H.J. Long Gymnasium. The matchup of the alumni and
the men's basketball team occurs at 7:00 p.m.
Completing the Saturday events will be a concert with BDA, Stephanie
Smith and Solafide, all featuring GC alumni and students, held in Music
Center at 8:00 p.m.
Special events for students
actually begin Tuesday, October 18, and continue throughout the week.
The highlight of the students week occurs on Wednesday, October 19,
with the annual Homecoming banquet at 6 p.m. Each year the Homecoming
banquet sees the crowing of the king and queen.
