Greenville College Hosts Women's Leadership Conference and Luncheon October 1 - Seminars Celebrate the Legacy of Almira Morse
GREENVILLE, ILL. – Greenville College invites area alumnae, faculty, staff and students to participate in Educating Women for Leadership, seminars and a luncheon held October 1 to honor the legacy of Almira Blanchard Morse.
The
seminars begin in Snyder 103 & 104 at 11 am, followed by the
luncheon at 12:15 and the final seminars at 1:45. The seminar schedule
and topics are as follows:
11 am “ Managing your Career, Past, Present and Future through God's Power”
– led by Jan Shurtz, this seminar will benefit thouse who struggle with
career decisions, or have challenges in the workplace today. Attendees
will discover how to manage one's career through God's power.
11 am “Tools for Spiritual Growth and Personal Success” –
led by Marilyn Thompson. Through guidance of seasoned spiritual women
and Christiana literature, attendees will learn how to deep
effectiveness in the daily environment.
12:15 Luncheon
1:45 “Almira Morse, Founding Mother of Education and Culture” – led
by Sharon Grimes and Dr. Richard Stephens. Learn how Almira Morse was
at the forefront of thinking as a woman whose life and contributions to
the college and city of Greenville paved the way for our success today.
1:45 “Leadership through All Seasons of Life” – led
by a panel of Greenville College women alumnae who have successfully
integrated work, family and spiritual priorities, they share their keys
to effectiveness.
Educating Women for Leadership
honors Almira Blanchard Morse's vision for a women's college in the
“west” which became Almira College in 1855, transitioning to Greenville
College in 1892. The college seeks to remember women contributors since
that time, until the present who have, like Almira, given their legacy
of dedication, talent, career, and passion for learning and ideals.
To
commemorate the Sesquicentennial celebration of higher education in
Greenville, four women from the college's history will be honored at
the luncheon. Selected as representatives of Almira Morse's legacy and
traits, these leaders span many years and continue to serve as role
models for students today. The awards will focus on four traits that
describe Almira Morse's life: Visionary Reformer, Courageous Innovator,
Principled Idealist and Sacrificial Benefactor.
