FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 11/01/2007
Tickets are now on sale for the Factory Theatre production of Steel Magnolias, a comedy-drama based on the real-life experiences of Southern playwright Robert Harling. The production runs from November 6-10 with curtain time at 7:30pm.
Truvy’s Beauty Salon is the backdrop for this heart-warming play set in a small town in Louisiana. The action follows the lives of six colorful friends who come to have their hair done at Truvy’s. In this safe environment, they discover that their struggles are made more bearable and their treasured moments are sweeter when shared with friends.
Vondria Bergen of Greenville directs the cast of the six marvelously amiable women characters whose friendship spans several years. Truvy is the hard-working and outspoken hair salon owner who takes her eager but naïve assistant hairdresser, Annelle, under her wing. Their salon patrons include bride-to-be Shelby and her devoted but headstrong mother, M’Lynn. The funny and feisty Ouiser, and her eccentric best friend, Clairee, complete the cast. Together, in their shared world of shampoos, scissors, and hairspray, they celebrate life’s victories and soften the blows of life’s burdens and challenges.
Steel Magnolias is celebrated for its witty dialogue as well as its tender-hearted storyline. Director Bergen is delighted with the performance of the cast and insists that Steel Magnolias is an uplifting and entertaining experience that will appeal to men as well as women.
Tickets are on sale at Jo’s Java and Watson’s Drugstore for $5 Greenville College students, staff, and faculty and $7 for the Community.
