“. . . fill your mind and meditate on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious. . . Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized.”
Philippians 4:8 & 9
The Message
Imagine facing difficult challenges, but then receiving support from someone who desires to walk with you through your situation. . .
Imagine having someone who believes in you, who points out your God-given strengths and talents, someone who desires to encourage your development . .
Imagine questioning healthy boundaries in a friendship or dating relationship, but then being able to turn to a “safe person” who will not judge you as you process your thoughts. . . .
Imagine struggling with spiritual questions in your journey to a deeper faith, and having someone more mature to hear your concerns and offer guidance. . . .
Imagine trying to sort out priorities for “life after college,” and then someone who is “out there” offers advice on balancing career, marriage, and a family. . . .
If you would like to have a Godly friend come alongside you, then participate.
Purpose
The “Invest in a Life” mentoring program exists to provide supportive relationships between mature believers and college students. In this “coming alongside” relationship, a mentor assists a student in navigating the challenges of young adulthood, by offering encouragement in spiritual development, personal growth and leadership abilities.
A Model
“Then Jesus chose twelve, that they might be with Him . . . .”
Mark 3:14
When Christ chose twelve men to be His disciples, He knew that optimal learning and life-transformation would take place if He invited these men to not only listen to His words, but to also watch His life and to ask questions about what they were experiencing.
The mentoring relationship between mature believers and Greenville college students follows Christ's example. Wisdom – “the skill of living” – is passed on as a mentor and student meet regularly to share transparently, dialog over issues, and pray.
Process
Currently there are members of the Greenville Community and Greenville College faculty and staff who have volunteered their time to focus on you!
