"Spiritual formation is an intentional, multifaceted process which promotes the transformation by which Christ is formed in us so that we can become His continually maturing disciples.” -John M. Dettoni
We are all on a journey. Here are a few program to encourage students along the road ...
Chapel is the cornerstone of the Spiritual Formation program at Greenville College. A place of corporate worship, prayer, education, and growth, chapel exists to encourage the formation of Christian community and to foster the development of a vibrant, life-changing relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for each individual within the community.
Monday, Wednesday & Friday Chapel
9:30 – 10:20 a.m.
A gathering of the whole community, these chapels offer times of music, prayer, Scripture reading, and a message from a member of our own college community or an outside guest.
Tuesday Prayer & Meditation Chapels
1:30 – 2:20 p.m.
Tuesday chapels provide an atmosphere for individual quiet meditation and prayer.
Thursday Night Vespers
9:30 p.m.
This student-led service is held each Thursday night in LaDue Auditorium and consists of music, testimonies, Scripture readings, and preaching by our own student leaders.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)”
GSO provides opportunities for outreach and demonstration of one’s Christian faith through various on-going ministry opportunities. Students are invited and encouraged to participate in any or all of the different ministry opportunities.
One-on-one mentoring is available for our students through a program called "Invest in a Life." This program provides supportive relationships between mature believers in area churches and college students. What began as a pilot program with 30 pairs of mentors and one area church is now expanding to three area churches.
Floor Bible Studies
A weekly Bible study is held on each residence floor. Nearly 300 students attend these Bible studies on a weekly basis.
Accountability Groups
For students who want to grow deeper in their faith and desire to be a part of a small group, "E-Cafe", A women's ministry, provides female students with the opportunity for both a large group experience and a smaller, more intimate accountablity and support group. For men, "Jabbok River" provides both large and small group support and accountablity.
Resident Chaplains
RC's are students who are chosen for their spiritual and emotional maturity. These students are called upon to lead weekly Bible studies and other programming to help the students on their floor grow spiritually, emotionally and academically.
Each summer before the school year begins, student leaders participate in a 10-day wilderness experience called “Walkabout.” This unique experience provides an atmosphere for profound spiritual growth and helps prepare them for on-campus service and leadership.
