Greenville College Set to Host Ninth Annual Alumni Reunion Weekend June 10-12
Saturday's Sesquicentennial Music Revue Highlights Three-Day Weekend
GREENVILLE
, Ill. - Greenville College will host its ninth annual Alumni Reunion
Weekend Friday through Sunday, June 10-12. The three-day weekend
reunites the Wilson T. Hogue Society and the classes of 1950, 1955,
1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, and 1980 for their class reunions.
The
weekend kicks off at 7 a.m. on Friday, June 10, with the Panther Pride
Golf Scramble, held at Indian Springs Golf Club, benefiting Greenville
College athletics. The Welcome Luncheon begins at 12 p.m. in the
Armington Center and is followed by campus tours and trolley car tours
of Greenville . Kevin Kaegy, author of Images of America: Greenville and Bond County will give the 30-minute historical trolley tours of Greenville 's downtown and historic homes.
The
alumni banquet begins at 6 p.m. on Friday night and will be held in the
Armington Center . This year's alumni banquet features guest speaker,
Dr. Gerald Bates, Bishop emeritus of the Free Methodist Church , and
this year's recipient of the Distinguished Alumnus Award. Bates
graduated from Greenville College in 1955 and completed a master's
degree at Asbury Theological Seminary and Western Theological Seminary.
He completed a doctoral degree at Michigan State University . Dr. Bates
has served for 28 years as a missionary in central Africa . His most
recent venture includes working with longstanding African friends to
assist in the founding of Hope Africa University . He writes in
religious periodicals and is author of the book, Soul Afire, a biography of J. W. Haley, founder of the Free Methodist work in central Africa .
A
full slate of Saturday events, capped off by a Sesquicentennial Music
Revue in the G.C. Music Center (old FM Church), provides a full day of
activities. The opening of the Sesquicentennial Exhibit will take
place at 10:45 a.m. in Hogue Hall. At noon , the reunion classes will
reconvene for their class reunion lunches.
After
a Celebration Dinner, “A Return to the 1850's,” in the Armington Center
at 6 p.m., the activities move to LaDue Auditorium where the GC music
faculty will present a Music Revue spanning 150 years of music history
at 8:00 p.m. The Greenville community is invited to attend the LaDue
Auditorium activities, which are free and open to the public.
