Assistant Librarian in Periodicals Print E-mail

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Full-time (12-month) non-tenure-track faculty position.  Review of applications will begin in March and the position is expected to be filled by July 2008.  Entry-level/early career position.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: ALA accredited MLS required.  Experience in academic library periodicals management desired. Familiarity with ExLibris’ Voyager integrated library system serials module, EBSCONet, and ExLibris’ SFX link resolver system is desired.  Familiarity with online database searching in a variety of interfaces as well as general internet searching, excellent computer skills, and excellent written and oral communication skills are expected.

We are seeking candidates who want to serve as role models for students in this community of Christian scholarship.  The successful candidate must have a vibrant personal Christian faith commitment.  He or she will also demonstrate a desire to support the College’s mission and be comfortable with the College’s Theological Assumptions and Lifestyle Statement. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise all aspects of library periodicals management using ExLibris’ Voyager Serials Module, EBSCONET, and SFX with particular attention to claims, binding, duplicate exchange, and database management.  Share in the regular Reference Desk staffing rotation, including at least one night a week during the academic year.  Participate in other library services to undergraduate, graduate, and adult degree-completion programs with additional responsibilities in one of the following areas: cataloging, collection development, interlibrary loan, or library instruction.  Includes oversight of one to two student workers and involvement in faculty committee work. 

COMPENSATION: Salary is based on academic preparation and years of relevant experience. RUBY E. DARE LIBRARY: The library has approximately 130,000 volumes and 400 print periodical subscriptions.  Four librarians, one paraprofessional, and 25 student workers serve the College’s approximately 1,350 students. The library is a member of the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries of Illinois (CARLI)’s I-Share Library consortium which uses ExLibris’ Voyager integrated system, OCLC, and the Lewis & Clark Library System, and has a number of electronic indexing and reference services.
