GREENVILLE, IL--Greenville College professor and associate dean of student success, Dr. Will Boyd, has been named as a “2008 Outstanding Young People Award” or TOYP honoree. Presented by the Illinois Jaycees, this award recognizes young Illinoisans who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve humanity. Dr. Boyd was recognized for his “Leadership & Academic Accomplishment” and was nominated by the Youth Workshop Ministries.
This award will highlight Dr. Boyd’s collaborative accomplishments in
education and religious leadership while working at Greenville College.
When asked about his nomination Dr. Boyd said he was, “Truly surprised
to have been nominated by Rev. Antywon Taylor and even more surprised
to find out that I was one of eight being honored this year”. Dr. Boyd
has admired the service-oriented activities of the Jaycees and is
excited to be associated with such a group. Dr. Boyd’s supervisor, Dr.
Norman Hall, Vice President for Student Development at Greenville
College, says that it is a treat to work with Dr. Boyd as he is a man
of utmost character who possesses a tireless spirit to serve others at
home, at church and on the job.
Dr. Boyd is the Associate Dean for Student Success & Instructor of
Management at Greenville College and also serves as founder and senior
pastor to a local church in Greenville and an Archbishop to churches in
eight different countries. In addition to this Dr. Boyd is married and
is father to two children son Will III (Tre') and younger daughter
Gabriel Elise (Brie).
This is the 42nd annual TYOP award ceremony. The voting done for the
TYOP is done each year by an independent judging panel comprised of JCI
Senators and local civic or business leaders throughout the state of
Illinois. Nominations can come from all organizations and past
recipients. The presentation will take place at the Decatur Hotel &
Conference Center on May 3, 2008.
The United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees) gives young people between
the ages of 18 and 40 the tools they need to build the bridges of
success for themselves in the areas of business development, management
skills, individual training, community service, and international
connections. The U.S. Junior Chamber is a non-profit organization.
Established in 1920 to provide opportunities for young men to develop
personal and leadership skills through service to others, the Jaycees
later expanded to include women, reflecting the growing influence and
leadership of women in America.
Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts
school with more than 1500 traditional undergraduate, graduate, and
adult degree completion students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with
the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville,
Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
