Job Summary
Responsible
for maintenance and administration of heterogeneous network environment
centered around the Microsoft Active Directory platform. Network components to
be managed include, but are not limited to, Intel-based server machines,
internal & external RAID arrays, MS Windows and Linux operating systems
(both hardware-installed and virtual), DNS and DHCP services, email services
(MS Exchange, email gateways and hosted email), data backup and recovery,
Internet access management systems, Internet bandwidth management systems and
network-based anti-malware systems. Also responsible for installing and
managing application and operating system updates and upgrades.
Key Responsibilities
·
Install,
configure and manage servers, server operating systems and network-based
application software within the institutional network
·
Ensure
integrity and reliability of network services through regularly scheduled
software and hardware updates, upgrades and replacements
·
Respond
to server-related support calls and follow through until issue is resolved
·
Manage
all email services for both the internal and external network
·
Configure
and maintain Active Directory services
·
Interact
with users to determine the network services and configurations that they
require
·
Use
independent judgment to develop and implement policies and procedures regarding
server maintenance, data integrity protection, data backup and data storage
·
Create
and maintain Active Directory, Linux and other miscellaneous client accounts
·
Administer
Active Directory user and group security setup and maintenance
·
Troubleshoot
client and server interaction issues and make necessary corrections
·
Configure
and maintain web servers for both internal and external networks
·
Coordinate
the implementation of web-based tools
·
Develop,
maintain and adhere to a schedule for network data backups and verify the
contents of the backups on a regular basis
·
Maintain
corporate antivirus system
·
Administer
network file storage for faculty, staff and students
·
Install
and configure Internet usage monitoring applications
·
Maintain
DNS services for both the internal and external networks
·
Maintain
DHCP services
·
Install,
configure and maintain network printers, print servers, print accounting
software and other network printing-related hardware and software
Education / Skills /
Requirements
·
A
Bachelors degree in an Information Technology-related discipline, or
commensurate experience in an equivalent position, is required
·

Strong
working knowledge of Windows 2000/2003/2008 server OS required

Strong
working knowledge of Linux-based systems highly desirable

Working
knowledge of the following required: TCP/IP protocol suite, DNS, DHCP, SMTP
·
Familiarity
with one or more of the following desirable: HTTP, SNMP, scripting language
(Python, VBScript, etc.)
·
Working
knowledge of LDAP-compatible directory systems required, Microsoft Active
Directory knowledge highly desirable
·
Experience
with network-based backup systems highly desirable
