Title: Assistant Dean for Women’s Residence Education

Basic Functions:
This position is responsible for
the direction and coordination of the residence program within her living
areas. She is the main facilitator in the planning and implementation
of a meaningful residence life experience for students and Resident
Chaplains (RCs). The Assistant Dean is primarily an educator with
a developmental philosophy, committed to helping residential students
bridge their academic and interpersonal worlds. Included as responsibilities
are general counseling and guidance, living area programming, and Graduate
Assistant (GA) Coordinators and Resident Chaplains staff selection,
supervision, training and development. With the GA Coordinators
and RCs as support staff the Assistant Dean intentionally plans a living-learning
program that emphasizes the development of community as well as the
strengths of individuals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Focus predominant time and
effort on: a. Programming b. Academic and behavioral support/ intervention
(using care team approach), which reflects the institutional commitment
to integration of the “Strengths Finder”.
- Discipleship of Graduate Assistant
Coordinators and respective Sr. Resident Chaplains and Resident Chaplains.
- Assist the Dean of Students
in delivering the annual 10 day Walkabout Wilderness Leadership training
program.
- Attend all chapel assemblies
and confront bad behavior as it occurs. Similar attention should
be given to making the effort to regularly dine in on-campus dining
areas and confronting poor behavior.
- Responsible for the day-to-day
management of the living area.
- Develops and implements a
living-learning program to meet the individual needs of living area
residents
- Assist in the development
and delivery of a unique residential program utilizing the “Strengths
Finder” survey to encourage and engage students in realizing their
highest level of academic and personal achievement.
- Serve on-duty weeks divided
equally among GACREs and Assistant Deans. This includes carrying the
duty phone at all times (ringer never off) and never traveling more
that 15 minutes from campus while on duty.
- Serve duty coverage over holiday
breaks which include two walks through campus (all interior floors of
residence halls).
- Serve to support Core 401
programs. This means at least one or more major programs in your
area focused on the correlated 401 topic for the respective year.
- Assist with development/dispersion/collation
of Residence Life survey
- Weekly meetings with area
staff.
- Serve as a responsible role
model who providing guidance and counseling for living area residents
and actively seeks to live a life of Christian service and leadership
- Confront and manage a sense
of accountability for students exhibiting behaviors, which are inconsistent
with stated College student standards of conduct.
- Maintain a constant sense
of preparedness among resident students in the event of catastrophic
emergency such as fire, flood, tornado, and earthquake.
- Assist with planning and delivery
of NSO program.
- Weekly one on one meeting
with Associate Dean for Campus Life, including completion of weekly
reports
- Assist Associate Dean of Campus
Life with management of paperwork, programs, and duties such as:
- Training (training plans for
new years must be complete by June 1st for each new year.)
- Full participation in preparation
and delivery of the annual Walkabout program
- Vacancy reports
- Retention report requests
- Health and safety inspections
at least twice a semester
- Immunizations records
- Planning and delivery, promotion
and publication of annual housing lottery
- All duties associated with
delivering quality programming to the residential community, includes
insuring each RC provides at least six programs each semester (one in
each area of the wellness wheel plus weekly Bible study).
- Insure that all Residence
floors have identified a “floor parent” by the second week of September
- Summer Mailings
- Ongoing selection, supervision,
training and evaluation of GA Coordinators and Resident Chaplains
- Must maintain a positive spirit
and attitude about the proposition of a seemingly endless array of complications
that impose upon the success of growing students in a Christian Liberating
Arts context.
- Maintain a positive effective
line of communication with the Physical plant staff on a day-to-day
basis.
- Serve as summer Assistant
Dean for men’s/women’s residence life.
- Other duties as assigned by
the Dean of Students or Associate Dean for Campus Life which may include
oversight or assistance with at least one major campus initiative.
Qualifications/Skills Required:
- M.A. in Student Development,
Counseling, Higher Education administration, a related field or commensurate
experience.
- Three years as a professional
in residence life.
- Clear understanding of the
principles of grace and redemption in a Student Developmental challenge/support
context.
- Agreement with the purpose
of Greenville College and demonstration of a mature Christian faith.
- Leadership, initiative, strong
written and verbal communication skills, and administrative ability.
- Student development and counseling
theory with skills suitable for housing, residence life; discipline,
& supervisory decisions.
- Knowledge of procedures and
theory in the field of housing and residence life; ability to assimilate
& disseminate knowledge.
- Ability to work as a vital
member of the Student Life Leadership team.
- A vision and commitment to
an intentionally developmental residence life program within a Christian
university framework.
