GREENVILLE, IL--Greenville College will conduct its 116th Commencement exercises with ceremonies and festivities on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18.
The weekend begins on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. with the commencement
luncheon in the Armington Center. Reservations are required. The Adult
and Graduate Studies Commencement will then be held in the Crum
Recreation Center at 2 p.m. Illinois State Representative Ron Stephens
from Greenville, IL will be delivering the Commencement address.
A traditional choir concert will be held at 4:30 p.m. on
Saturday in the James E. Wilson Recital Hall in the Whitlock Music
Center. Also at 4:30 p.m., a celebration dinner will begin in the
Armington Center. Reservations are required. Events will continue with
the traditional Ivy Cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. on the front lawn of
Hogue Hall. Graduating seniors stand in a circle connected by a
continuous strand of ivy. In a silent ceremony college president Dr.
V. James Mannoia, Jr. will move around the circle, cutting the ivy
between each senior to symbolize a parting of ways.
Festivities begin on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. with a
Commencement breakfast reception at Joy House. Baccalaureate will take
place at 11:00 a.m. in the Crum Recreation Center followed by a
Commencement luncheon at noon in the Armington Center, Reservations are
required.
Commencement ceremonies for traditional graduates will be held at 3
p.m. on Sunday in the Crum Recreation Center. The Commencement address
will be delivered by Dr. Paul R. Corts, the fifth president of the
Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU). Prior to this
position Dr. Corts served as assistant attorney general for
Administration for the U.S. Department of Justice. He and his wife,
Diane, reside in northern Virginia and have two grown sons and one
grown daughter.
