FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - 09/09/2008

Dr. Ed BlueFollowing the retirement announcement of Greenville College president, Dr. Jim Mannoia, last May, the college board of trustees appointed Dr. Ed Blue as interim president. Dr. Blue will serve in this capacity while a national presidential search is conducted.

Interim president, Dr. Ed Blue, has served Greenville College for over 14 years as head of the Education Department and dean of the School of Education. “My colleagues are wonderful people. Working with them has been a highlight of my career and together we built a great Teacher Education program. I say together because I can’t take all the credit, they all worked really hard to make us [GC Education Department] what we are today.”

In 2006, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) recognized Greenville College and Dr. Ed Blue for their outstanding accreditation review and for training a group of 30 new state education team members. The college passed the state certification with the highest recommendations. Dr. Blue was commended for providing other schools with assistance in meeting the accreditation and state proficiency education standards. This was the first time the ISBE had recognized a college for their proficiency at addressing state and national requirements.

Prior to his tenure at GC, Dr. Blue served as president of Asbury College (KY). He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Administration from Indiana University, a M.A. in Education from Indiana University and a B.A. in History from Grace College.

Having served as a public school teacher, principal, central office administrator, college professor and college president, Dr. Blue has been honored in three states, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois, for his commitment to education. He also served on a committee for President George H. W. Bush to create legislation to combat illegal pornography.

Dr. Blue steps into his role as interim president with vision and excitement for the year ahead. “Fundraising will be my main thrust. I am working on setting up meetings all over the country and I will help the development department fundraise. We need to raise money for Hogue Hall 2; we have dormitories that need help, and other projects on campus.” He and his wife Judy will also be spotted at many campus events. “I love students. Being around students is fun. I will attend as many events on campus as possible. I like to see students perform — musicals, athletics, etc.”

“Judy and I have always done things together; we’ve prayed about our new role(s) here and feel that this is God’s will for both of us.” Dr. Blue and his wife, Judy, are parents to four grown children and grandparents of five. His daughter, Teresa (Blue) Holden, and her husband, Dave, both live in Greenville and work at the college.

Greenville College is a four-year accredited Christian liberal arts school with more than 1500 traditional undergraduate, graduate and adult degree completion students. Founded in 1892 and affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, the college is located in Greenville, Illinois, 45 miles east of St. Louis.
