Greenville College Homecoming and Parents’ Weekend Set for
October 17-19
Concerts, Dedications, and Sporting Events Planned
GREENVILLE, Ill. – A Friday morning Homecoming chapel and
Saturday evening concert featuring Jonathan and Amanda Noël,
a dedication and open house at the V. W. Maves Art Center, various
sporting events, and much more highlight the annual Homecoming and
Parents’ Weekend Friday through Sunday, Oct. 17-19, at Greenville
College.
Activities for the public begin Friday, Oct. 17, with Homecoming
chapel at the Free Methodist Church. Jonathan and Amanda Noël
will lead worship at the 9:30 a.m. service. The couple remains on
campus to perform a concert on Saturday, Oct. 18, in LaDue Auditorium
at 7 p.m.
Now residing in Franklin, Tenn., Jonathan and Amanda have written
and presented their music through recordings and live performances
since the mid-1990’s. They have traveled nationwide, sharing
the stage with recording artists Jars of Clay, Point of Grace, Margaret
Becker, Fernando Ortega, Out of the Grey, and Andrew Peterson.
The Music Department completes Friday’s activities with a
concert at the Free Methodist Church starting at 7:30 p.m.
A full schedule of activities is planned for Saturday, including
several events involving the Art Department. The day begins for
the Art Department at 10:30 a.m. as the V. W. Maves Art Center is
dedicated. After an art reunion luncheon at noon, artists will speak
at the Maves Art Center during the facility’s open house at
2 p.m.
Sporting events on tap Saturday begin at 8:30 a.m. with the President’s
Road Race. Anyone can participate for a $10 registration fee, which
covers prizes and t-shirts. Participants should gather in front
of the Student Union at College Avenue and Spruce Street at 8 a.m.
Other sporting events on Saturday are held throughout the day.
At 9 a.m., the action begins at Francis Field as the press box at
the softball field is dedicated in honor of Dr. James and Marilyn
Reinhard. The softball team will host their alumni in a game at
9:30 a.m.
Alumni of the men’s soccer program will square off at 9 a.m.
on the Francis Field soccer field, followed by a women’s alumni
soccer game at 11 a.m.
The women’s basketball team plays their alumni in H. J. Long
Gymnasium at 11 a.m.
At noon, the activity continues at Francis Field with a tailgate
party prior to the football game. The football team hosts Concordia
(Wis.) University at 1:30 p.m. Halftime festivities for the football
game include the presentation of the Homecoming king, queen, and
court.
The women’s and men’s soccer matches will also be
played at the Francis Field complex as they face Webster University.
The women’s game kicks off at 1 p.m., and the men’s
game follows at 3 p.m.
To wrap up Saturday’s activities of sporting events, the
men’s basketball team hosts two alumni games in H. J. Long
Gymnasium. The masters’ game for basketball alumni over the
age of 40 starts at 7 p.m. The traditional matchup of the alumni
and the men’s basketball team occurs at 8 p.m.
Completing the Saturday events, Drs. Kenneth and Sandra Salguero-Schmidt
host a Latino reunion at their home at 9 p.m. Shortly thereafter,
La Fête de Saucisson performs a concert in LaDue Auditorium
at 10 p.m.
Special events for students actually begin on Tuesday, Oct. 14,
and continue throughout the week.
On Tuesday night, the men’s and women’s basketball
teams launch their season with Midnight Madness at H. J. Long Gymnasium
starting at 11 p.m.
The highlight of the students’ week occurs on Wednesday,
Oct. 15, with the annual Homecoming banquet at 6 p.m. Each year
the Homecoming banquet sees the crowning of the king and queen.
The 2003 king candidates include Joey Eddy of Ramsey, Ill., Erik
Ewaskowitz of Milwaukee, Wis., Jason Fishburn of Moundridge, Kan.,
Dontrell Harriel of Washington Park, Ill., and Paul Spilburg of
Chesterfield, Mo.
The queen candidates are Sara Gentry of Peoria, Ill., Jennilee
Jahr of Cadott, Wis., Cassie Morgan of Bonnie, Ill., Emily Moss
of Alvin, Ill., and Lindsey Row of Bruning, Neb.
The activities primarily designed for students conclude on Thursday,
Oct. 16, with the Mr. Panther Pageant in LaDue Auditorium at 7 p.m.
