In last Spring's version of the general education revision, the
HPR requirement was limited to 3 credit hours. A February 8
memo from Robert Johnson, chair of HPR, requested:
"The general education core in Physical
Education be retained at four credit hours rather than be
reduced to three as recommended in the council's
plan."
Dr. Johnson's memo offered several arguments for retaining four
credits hours: two of these credit hours would be dedicated
to HPR 101 and HPR 102 and two credit hours dedicated to
diverse "activity" courses.
At the March 1 meeting of the General Education Council:
By consensus we concurred with the arguments
of Dr. Johnson, and revised the general education
proposal for "Distributed Requirements" to
include 2 hours of HPR activity courses.
