The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for students that have a Bachelor Degree and would like continue their education in order to teach.  Along with a Master of Arts Degree, students become prepared to receive their teaching certification in the state of Illiniois.

Features of MAT

  • Both elementary and secondary certification offered
  • Designed to prepare students to be certified to teach in the State of Illinois
  • Course work schedule is tailored to working adults
  • Courses include state-mandated field experiences in addition to regular course work
  • Student teaching follows course work, field experience, and required Illinois testing
  • Special Education and Middle School Endorsements also available

Format of MAT
  • Locations: Greenville College, Kaskaskia College in Centralia, IL; Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, IL; Lewis and Clark Community College in Godfrey, IL; and Belleville, IL
  • Convenient times: Attend class one night a week from 6-10pm.  Most classes meet for seven weeks.
  • Convenient to complete: Each program is approximately 30 months including a 14 week student teaching experience (Summer classes not required).

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Application for Admission & $30 Fee (62k .pdf)
  • Two favorable recommendations (95k .pdf)
  • Test results reflecting a passing score on ICTS Basic Skills Test
  • Official Transcripts from all schools attended for Bachelor's Degree
