Procedure for Acquiring Services:
The Student Success Center operates with a proactive approach to student support.
Students need to see learning as a deliberate choice and decision rather than
something that just happens without a plan. Students are encouraged to schedule
appointments with Student Success staff; however, the staff is available for
drop-in visits as time permits. All of the services provided through the office
are more effective if used regularly.
- Tutoring is available by appointment on a first-come-first-served basis.
Tutoring appointments are limited to one half hour at busy times.
- Group study sessions are scheduled through at the request of a professor
- Faculty or staff members may refer a student for testing or other services
- Students may be self-referred for academic counseling
Peer Tutoring Program
Tutoring is offered in general education classes or in the first class of a major.
It is usually done in a one-on-one session but may also be offered to groups as
needed. All tutoring takes place in the Student Success Center. Tutors are hired to
work in several different areas (i.e. writing, math, foreign language, etc.) They
work in the office on an appointment or drop-in basis. Two tutors work each two-hour
shift. There are three shifts each school day except Friday. Students may schedule
appointments with a specific tutor for a specific time or may drop in and take the
tutor who is available. While tutors may tutor in several different subjects, they
are assigned to a specific faculty member as a contact for the office. These contacts
center around course content. Tutors are available to meet the needs of the faculty
member, such as review sessions before a test. Tutors are interviewed and hired at
the end of each semester to begin working the following semester. To be considered
for a tutoring position, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have two
faculty recommendations. Tutors are required to participate in a one-day training
session prior to beginning work in the center. Tutors meet for ongoing training
throughout the semester.
Writing Lab
The computer writing lab is staffed by writing lab assistants who are trained to
help students on the computers, but are also able to work with students to improve
their writing. They are able to assist students at any stage of the writing process.
These students are hired and trained in the same way as Peer Tutors.
The Professionally-Assisted
Student Success (PASS) Program
Students who fail to meet the minimum established admission requirements may have to
enter a program that is designed to be developmental. The goal is to intentionally
do whatever possible, within the limits of our resources, to restore those who have
experienced academic difficulty so they can experience success as a whole person.
Students will participate in a minimum of six hours per week of required study time
with a tutor-led study group. Additional Services Assessment testing in reading,
writing and study skills Academic counseling and advising Accountability programs

Off-Campus Semester Programs
Greenville College makes available to students opportunities to earn credit through
off-campus study. Students are encouraged to consider spending at least one semester
gaining the enrichment of cross-cultural experience or learning in an unusual environment.
In all of the programs listed below, students remain enrolled through Greenville College
and pay regular Greenville tuition. Some programs require additional travel costs or
special room and board costs. Additional information may be obtained at the Academic
