Greenville College has developed the Bachelor of Arts in Pastoral
Ministry in response to the growing interest in men and women to
step forward and answer God's call to ministry.
Greenville College's Pastoral Ministry program is evangelical in
scope and has a Christian liberal arts emphasis, teaching men and
women to think broadly, critically, and professionally. One important
concept is the use of practical, hands-on experiences that will
prepare the prospective minister for effective service.
The student will be challenged to a vital and deepened faith commitment.
This will be based in an intellectual understanding of the scriptures
and a life of prayer that builds confidence in God.
The student will also be challenged toward effective leadership
by participating in ministry situations during the college experience.
An intensive internship under the direction of a veteran pastor
of a growing church will complete the training.
Greenville College responds to the challenge believing
that a call to serve is a call to prepare.
What You Will Experience
The student can expect to be exposed to the professional
tasks of pastoral ministry. Under the guidance of a professor who
has been a pastor, the student will learn experientially by performing
baptisms, infant dedications, funerals, weddings, hospital visitation,
radio speaking, and so on, in the classroom and in the community.
Between the junior and senior years, the student will take this
knowledge into a full-time internship working in a church under
an experienced pastor. The program includes an emphasis on the student's
own spiritual formation, spiritual leadership, evangelism, and church
growth. Each area is taught with an emphasis on Scripture, tradition,
and current thought in the field.
Commitment
Greenville College has fulfilled a distinguished
role in the preparation of ministers since its inception in 1892.
The Pastoral Ministry major, in keeping with this fine tradition,
is designed to offer the best in academics and practical/professional
studies.
Caring
As you walk across the Greenville campus and ask
anyone you meet about the spirit of Greenville, the answer you'll
hear again and again is "people!" Students, professors, and others
all talk about the special kind of caring they have found here.
That personal concern also shows through in very practical matters
like finances. We want to help each student afford a quality Greenville
education. We have found financial assistance for 90% of our current
students, and we will do our best to meet your specific needs.
