Recent Graduate Emily Nicholas, Wins Miss Iowa Competition

Emily Nicholas with George W. BushGREENVILLE, IL –  Emily Nicholas, recent Greenville College graduate and winner of the Miss Cedar River pageant, won the title of Miss Iowa in June. Nicholas began the competition by winning the talent portion for her vocal performance. Nicholas studied Contemporary Christian Music at the college.

Nicholas began her pageant run after encouragement from her older sister Carolyn Nicholas who won both Miss Cedar River and Miss Iowa in 2004. Emily and Carolyn sang the national anthem for a Republican fundraiser in Des Moines, IA. The Nicholas sisters also perform together at youth events, nursing homes, and other venues through out Iowa. The two have written and recorded songs together. Their song, “Where Beauty Lives,” speaks to the heart of Emily's platform “Character Counts: Be All That You Can Be”.

As the winner of the Miss Iowa competition, Nichols was awarded a $10,000 scholarship and the opportunity to represent her state in the January 2007 Miss America competition.
