"Preparing teachers to serve in a culturally diverse world"
Educating our future citizenry remains one of the most noble
and significant challenges for an individual to accept. As the societal
foundation of family has continued to decline in positive influence,
the need grows for dedicated, purpose-minded teachers.
Those who pursue a teaching career now will inherit the task
of motivating the first generation of the 21st century
to lead an intelligent, responsible and meaningful life.
Greenville College has always operated from the standpoint of
inclusion. The teacher education program is no exception. The courses
of study and practical experiences teacher candidates receive are
summed up by the teacher education theme which states that we are
preparing teachers to serve in a culturally diverse world.
We not only want to serve in geographical areas with primarily
minority populations, we want to recruit qualified minorities to
the program. As an inducement, the college offers tuition
scholarships to minority students who declare teacher education
as a major.

Teachers: Decision Makers and Problem Solvers
Teacher education has for years been one of Greenville's
strongest programs. We recognize that teachers are so much more
than just skilled labor or trained technicians. Because of the dynamic
students produced in the field of education, teachers must be flexible.
They must utilize creativity, adaptability, and ingenuity. Most
importantly, they must realize that they are influential role models,
and accept the responsibility to assure all students learn.
An "Experience" Oriented Program
Three distinct areas comprise a Greenville Education
to create effective educators. The required general education courses
provide the broad liberal arts foundation necessary for balanced
leaders. Professional education courses allows consideration of
education as a profession.
However, to be fully prepared for classroom teaching, students need to
be thoroughly acquainted with education process from a teacher's
perspective. Classroom field and clinical experiences form an integral
portion of preparation from the freshman year through graduation. These
experiences help students to develop their personal style of teaching.
The practical learning portion of the program culminates in a full
professional internship your senior year.
