Greenville College recently received a $64,000 grant from the Illinois Institute of Independent Colleges and Universities as a part of their Project Connect, which seeks to develop new research and teaching methods using the Illinois Century Network (ICN). The ICN is a high-speed telecommunications artery and program of network services.

The college, which collaborated with Project Connect three years ago, seeks to use the grant money to support the college’s educational program through several projects. The college seeks to create an online new teacher mentoring program, which will allow student teachers in the education department as well as recent graduates to ask questions of experienced teachers. The college will make a portion of the funds from this grant available to faculty to re-work their courses utilizing more network-based capabilities. The college will install two additional “smart classrooms” for instructors utilizing technology in their curriculum. In addition, the college will establish an orientation website for adjunct instructors and create on-line courses for both adult and graduate study programs.
