In run to SLIAC Championships, Martsorf Qualifies for NCAA Division III National Meet
The
ongoing success story of the Greenville
College cross country programs
continued last fall as each team earned St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SLIAC) championships. The men’s title was their ninth consecutive,
and the women’s squad won their 10th in
11 seasons. Head Coach Brian Patton
received Coach of the Year honors in both sports, raising his career total to
17 SLIAC Coach of the Year awards. Senior Josh Martsolf of St.
Joseph, Mo., was the SLIAC’s
Runner of the Year, while junior Curtis Flake of Neoga, Ill.,
was the SLIAC’s Newcomer of the Year.
The
season performances of Martsolf were noteworthy as he became the third athlete
in Greenville College cross country history to qualify
for the NCAA Division III national championship meet. He completed the
eight-kilometer NCAA Midwest Regional course in 25:37, finishing 18th
and advancing to the NCAA Division III national championship at Ohio Wesleyan
University. At the national
meet, he ran 27:19, placing 112th in a field of 211 runners. Martsolf
also crossed the finish line as champion of the Augustana (Ill.) Brissman/Lundeen Invitational,
Millikin Classic, and SLIAC Championships.
