Director of World
Outreach and Missions Elizabeth Hehman organized this week to encourage
awareness about the issues of the global church, and highlight opportunities to
respond in love and compassion. Different missionaries and mission agency
representatives from various organizations and ministries nationwide will be
joining the Greenville College community on campus during the
week.
"Global Impact Week is a
special emphasis week for college community to focus on needs and problems
around the world and ways we can get involved to make an impact around the
world," Hehman said. "We hope that it will inspire the students to consider how
they can apply their discipline of study to these problems and think about using
their future to make a difference globally."
Some of the participating
organizations include African Inland Mission, Intl., Café 140, and Food for the
Hungry. The Chapel themes for the week are:
Monday - How our view of
God shapes our role and responsibility in the global community.
Tuesday - Prayer and reflection guide
available for processing Monday's message.
Wednesday - Why mercy matters; the
impact of Christian compassion.
Thursday - Vespers- student
led.
Friday - Living "missionally" in the
here and now. (Greenville Student
Outreach testimony &
opportunities)
In addition to the
special chapel schedule, special guests and events will allow students to
explore opportunities for global impact, and network with various Christian
sending organizations. Some additional programs include Adopt a Missionary,
where residence floors will host visiting mission representatives for the week,
class presentations, and book discussions. A number of workshops on topics
ranging from Islam to single missionaries will also be held on Monday and
Tuesday afternoon.
Jodi Hogue, a senior
Urban Cross Cultural Ministry major, believes this week will have a positive
influence on the students who get involved. "There's so much more to the world
then what we know," Hogue stated. "I think by having the different missions
organizations here [students will] see how they can use their major, that you
don't have to be a ministry major, they'll just be aware of the possibilities
they have after graduation. Even if you don't go into something like that then
you'll know what's going on."
The chapel themes for the
week correspond with the Fall Semester Chapel theme of "Building a Christian
Worldview." Chapel times on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday begin at 9:30 a.m. in
the Whitlock Music Center, Vespers on Thursday begins at 9:30 p.m. in the
Whitlock Music Center, and Tuesday prayer and meditation chapel begins at
1:30p.m. in the sanctuary of the Free Methodist Church. Greenville College broadcasts Chapel every Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday on WGRN 89.5 FM.
