Homecoming and Parents' Weekend Set for October
20-22
Concerts,
Dedications and Sporting Events Planned
GREENVILLE,
ILL. - A Friday morning Homecoming
chapel featuring Greenville native and CPA Paul Donnell, various sporting
events, and concerts highlighting GC talent, Fundamental Elements, Redding, and
Keegan John and much more highlight the annual Homecoming and Parents' Weekend
Friday through Sunday, October 20-22, at Greenville College.
Activities for the public
begin Friday, October 20, with Homecoming chapel at the Whitlock Music Center. Greenville native Paul Donnell will be awarded
the college's young alumnus award and the give the chapel address. Donnell, a
CPA working for the elite accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, was
recently promoted to the position of manager within the highly exclusive Global
Capital Markets group of the firm.
A
weekend of Whitlock Music Center dedications begins Friday evening at
7:30 pm with the Seiler piano dedication.
At 9:00 pm the Men's Alumni
Volleyball game will be held in the H.J. Long
Gymnasium.
A
full schedule of activities is planned for Saturday. The day begins at 8:o0 a.m.
with the Panther 5k. Anyone can participate for a $15 registration fee, which
covers prizes and a commemorative t-shirt, with all monies raised being donated
to the Bond county Habitat for Humanity project. Participants should gather in
the newly remodeled student union between 7:30-8:00 a.m. to
register.
Other sporting events on Saturday
will be held throughout the day. At 9 a.m. the men's alumni soccer game, the
women's alumni volleyball, and the women's alumni softball game kick off. At 11
a.m. athletic events continue with the women's alumni soccer game and women's
alumni basketball game.
At 11 a.m. the college will dedicate
the Whitlock
Music Center. A generous gift by the Whitlock
family provided the necessary resources to complete the college's Music Center, a three story facility that houses
both contemporary and traditional music programs in a labyrinth of practice
rooms, spacious faculty offices, high-tech classrooms and the James E. Wilson
Recital hall.
Homecoming activities continue with
women's and men's soccer matches, which will be played at the Francis Field
complex as they face Westminster. The women's game kicks off at 1
p.m. and the men's game follows at 3 p.m.
The G.C. Panther football team will
host MacMurray at 1 p.m. on the football field.
At 6 p.m. the college will continue
the weekend of Music Center dedications by dedicating the James
E. Wilson recital hall as a tribute to long-time former choir director James
Wilson.
To wrap up Saturday's sporting
events, the men's basketball team will host an alumni game in H.J. Long
Gymnasium. The matchup of the alumni and the men's basketball team occurs at
7:00 p.m.
Completing the Saturday
events will be a concert with Fundamental Elements, Redding, and Keegan John,
all featuring GC alumni and students, held in the Blackroom at 8:30
p.m.
Special events for students actually
begin Tuesday, October 17, and continue throughout the week. The highlight of
the students' week occurs on Tuesday, with the annual Homecoming banquet. Each
year the Homecoming banquet sees the crowing of the king and queen. This year's
banquet will feature a Homecoming dance, the first in the school's
history.
