CAMPAIGN ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Piano Lab Facilities
Music Center

Since its founding in 1892, music has remained an integral part of the Greenville College curriculum. Students can major in Music, Music Education, Pedagogy and Literature, Church Music and Contemporary Christian Music. In fact, nearly 20 percent of our students have chosen to pursue a music degree.

Given our success, it’s no wonder that the Music Department continues to experience growth in both enrollment and retention. In the spring of 2002, the college purchased the Free Methodist Church adjacent to the campus. We converted the 38,000 sq.ft. of space into a new home for the entire Music Department that includes classrooms, practice rooms, studios and lab band space. The sanctuary is being adapted for use as the Wilson Recital Hall.

Vivien W. Maves Art Center

Located on Beaumont Avenue in the former Coast to Coast Hardware building, the Vivien W. Maves Art Center was funded in the spring of 2003 with a $300,000 comprehensive campaign contribution by Dr. Vivien Wallace Maves, a 1928 Greenville College graduate. The 12,000 square foot building now includes classrooms, offices, sculpture and ceramic studios, a wood shop, and individual studio space for seniors. It unites facilities that were once contained in Archer Hall and the Kelsey Building.

Almira College House

Almira House

Throughout 2005, Greenville College commemorated 150 years of higher education in Greenville. A key project in the year-long celebration, the reconstruction of Almira College House, was completed in time for a dedication ceremony over Homecoming Weekend 2005. Almira College House, now known as the Bock Museum, was constructed in 1855 and currently showcases the largest single collection of works by sculptor Richard W. Bock. The reconstruction process has returned the house to its former grandeur, where it serves the community and hosts the Bock collection.

John M. Strahl Athletic Complex

Athletics is an important part of the Greenville College co-curriculum; nearly thirty percent of our students participate in at least one sport and our teams have developed a reputation forSoccer Player competitive excellence. Part of the reason for this success is having the necessary facilities to meet the training and practice needs of each team, including fields, equipment and space.

The Greenville College board of trustees voted unanimously to name the athletic complex just one mile south of the campus after Coach John M. Strahl. This complex includes the Robert E. Smith Baseball Field, Francis Soccer Field, football stadium, track, soccer practice fields and the Briner Training Center.
