Students may choose to work part or full-time during the academic year or summer session. Internship information can be found on file in Career Services.

COOPERATIVE EDUCATION
ILLINOIS BOARD OF HIGHER EDUCATION CO-OP GRANT PROGRAM

History: Greenville College has participated in the Illinois Board of Higher Education co-op grant program since 1994. Approximately 400 students have completed co-op experiences with nearly 200 employers at work sites throughout the state of Illinois. Student wages are funded through the grant for actual hours worked at approved employer sites. Co-op sites must be with an Illinois organization, operate independently from the College, and be either nonprofit agencies or must not have dollars designated within their budget to hire an employee for the services to be performed (such employers will be requested to match funds received through the grant). Employers collaborate with the Office of Career Services in order to post co-op positions and identify potential co-op students. Funds are reserved for students on a first-come, first-serve basis. The IBHE co-op grant award for the fiscal year 2005/06 begins July 1, 2005 and ends June 30, 2006. Summer term students can begin earning pay prior to July, however funding is not likely to be received until mid summer.

Purpose: The purpose of the cooperative education program is to integrate academic learning with paid, planned, and supervised work experience. Any student in any major, or those undeclared, may enroll in co-op. A co-op is considered to be an experiential learning opportunity and is appropriate for students who want to explore their career interests.

Student Qualifications: Students must be an Illinois resident, be in good academic standing, and have earned a minimum of 22 college credits. Students must enroll in general co-op or an upper level internship course.
