Baseball Advances to SLIAC Title Game

HIGHLAND, Ill. -- After beating Spalding 14-9 in the opening game of the double elimination SLIAC tournament on Thursday, May 8, Greenville played two tournament games on Friday, May 9. While Greenville lost the first game 10-2 against Webster, they beat Spalding 6-1 in the second game in order to advance to the championship.

Greenville started the first game off with a bang as Tim Osborne hit a two run homer. Webster answered right back in the bottom of the first with a couple homeruns of their own. Greenville was shut out the rest of the game, only managing two more hits. Dylan Bone pitched five innings for the Panthers in relief, giving up three runs on five hits and two walks. Derek Reckmann picked up the loss for G.C., allowing seven runs in three innings and striking out five.

The Panthers bounced right back in the next matchup. They opened the game again with two runs in the first, this time highlighted by a Trevor Montgomery RBI double. Spalding cut the lead in half during the third inning, but they would not score the rest of the game.

Tim Osborne added three more RBIs and Dathan Berning had one of his own. Tyler Pilcher pitched seven innings for the win, and Nick Bifano added another save.

Greenville holds an overall record of 24-19. They face Webster in the championship round of the SLIAC conference tournament on Saturday, May 10. If the Panthers win the first game, they have to beat Webster again in a doubleheader in order to win the championship.
