Baseball dropped by Anderson

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The baseball team was defeated 17-4 by Anderson in seven innings on Tuesday at Lake Myrtle Park in Auburndale.

The Panthers were the home team in the contest and faced a 6-0 deficit before their first at bat. Anderson added two runs in the top of the second to take an 8-0 lead.

Greenville produced three runs in the bottom of the third when Trevor Montgomery had an RBI single, Travis Ralls picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice to first base, and Tim Osborne hit a sacrifice fly to left center.

Greenville's 8-3 deficit was short-lived as Anderson tacked on eight runs in the top of the fourth to take a 16-3 lead. In the bottom half of the fourth, Montgomery produced another RBI single.

Anderson added their 17th run of the afternoon in the top of the sixth.

Greenville's Mike Hardin went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Montgomery was also 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.

Austin Marsh was the loser on the mound as he gave up eight runs, two earned, on seven hits in one inning of work.

Jason Collingwood and Michael Wittmer each produced a single inning of scoreless relief.

The Panthers (1-6) face Ripon on Wednesday in Winter Haven's Chain of Lakes Stadium.
