Baseball drops pair to Bowdoin

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - The baseball team dropped two games to Bowdoin on Monday in Florida as they opened their spring trip. The Panthers fell 4-2 in the first game and 16-3 in the second.

Game 1 Recap

Mike Hardin did all he could to give the Panthers a boost, but it wasn't enough to get past Bowdoin, as the Panthers lost 4-2 on Monday.

Hardin did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Panthers, reaching base three times. He tripled in the second inning.

Ryan Strohm took the loss on the mound for the Panthers. He lasted six innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed four runs.

The lead went to Bowdoin early thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fifth, the Panthers faced just a 2-1 deficit. An RBI single by Danny Strohm fueled the Panthers' comeback, but Bowdoin jumped on Ryan Strohm in the sixth with a two-run homer.

One run in the bottom of the sixth helped the Panthers close their deficit to 4-2. An RBI double by Travis Ralls gave the Panthers life.

Game 2 Recap

Trevor Montgomery posted a two-hit game, but the Panthers dropped a 16-3 contest to Bowdoin.

Dillon Reel took the loss for the Panthers. He allowed seven runs in 1 2/3 innings and walked two.

Bowdoin scored a run in the first and built upon its lead with six runs in the second.

One run in the top of the fifth helped the Panthers close their deficit to 7-1. A double play groundout by Dathan Berning with the bases loaded gave Greenville their run.

Bowdoin tacked on two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

Two runs in the top of the sixth helped the Panthers close their deficit to 9-3. An RBI single by Montgomery and an RBI single by Mike Hardin triggered the Panthers' comeback.

Bowdoin added their final seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Panthers (3-11) continue their trip on Tuesday with a doubleheader against Grinnell.
