Baseball Edged 7-5 by Monmouth

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. The Panthers dropped another close battle at home on Saturday, as a late-inning surge against Monmouth failed to lift the Black & Orange to their first win of 2012.

Facing foe Monmouth (1-1), Greenville College baseball (0-4) again showed they have little trouble producing hits, posting 11 knocks as a team with two doubles and a triple. However, despite the production, the Black & Orange left 11 men on base and seven in scoring position. Monmouth took advantage of the miscues and consistently added runs to outlast the Panthers 7-5.

Greenville freshman Jared Massengil again helped lead the bats in the afternoon affair, going 3-for-5 at the plate with a run scored. Junior catcher Adam Wallace also turned in an impressive performance at the dish, driving in a key run while posting a 2-for-4 effort with a run scored.

On the mound, sophomore southpaw Tyler Mitchell was charged the loss, pitching six full innings and giving up four earned despite a solid six strikeouts.

GC baseball will look to bounce back on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 as they play host to McKendree University in the final contest of their four-game home stand. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm at Robert E. Smith Field.
