Baseball rallies to top Blackburn

CARLINVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team improved their conference record to 13-5 with a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Blackburn on Friday. Greenville recovered from a three run deficit to tie the game in the seventh inning on a Tim Osborne home run and took their first lead of the game in the eighth inning with two runs.

Blackburn jumped ahead 1-0 in the first and Greenville tied it in the top of the second.

Blackburn regained the lead in the third with a run that Greenville matched in the top of the fourth.

The Beavers three-run fourth inning gave them a 5-2 lead. Greenville chipped away with two runs in the top of the sixth and one in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

The Panthers only allowed Blackburn one run over the final five innings.

Mike Hardin was 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Osborne was 2-for-3. Max Gabriel went 2-for-4 with two runs. Josh Wheeler had a 2-for-5 afternoon with one run scored and one RBI.

C.J. Opp was the starting pitcher and allowed five runs, three earned, on four hits and four walks. He struck out four.

Nathan Garbe picked up the win with a scoreless inning to improve his record to 2-0.

Nick Bifano got his fourth save.

The Panthers (15-16) host Blackburn on Saturday at 5 p.m.
