Baseball Rally Falls Short against Franklin & Marshall

AUBURNDALE, Fla. --The baseball team put the go-ahead run on first base in the top of the ninth inning but came up on the short end of a 7-6 loss to Franklin and Marshall on Tuesday in Florida.

Tim Osborne continued his early season tear, going 2-for-4 with a triple, home run, two RBI, and three runs scored. After five games, he is hitting at a .632 clip.

The Franklin and Marshall Diplomatspicked up single runs in the first and fourth innings and a pair of runs in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, the Panthers used an RBI triple from Osborne and an RBI ground out by Hunter Bryan to cut the deficit in half.

Franklin and Marshall scored twice in the sixth to make the score 6-2 before the Panthers put three runs on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth.

In the eighth inning, Jared Storment and Dalton McFarland had RBI singles, and Tommie Brown drove in a run on a groundout.

Franklin and Marshall came right back with a single tally in the bottom of the eighth, but the Panthers answered, getting a run in the top of the ninth on Osborne's homer. Panther runners were on first and second base when the game ended.

Sophomore C.J. Opp was Greenville's starting pitcher. He went five innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits. He walked one and was credited with the loss.

He was relieved by Michael Wittmer, Jason Collingwood, and Nick Bifano.

Tyler Whitworth put together a 3-for-5 afternoon with a double and a run scored.

The Panthers (2-3) resume their Florida trip on Thursday afternoon with a double header in Auburndale against Dickinson at 3 p.m. ET.
