Baseball sweeps doubleheader at Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. -- The baseball team won two games on Friday as they shut out Eureka 7-0 in game one and then won an 11-8 decision in 10 innings in game two.

Dathan Berning went 3-for-5 with an RBI in the first game as seven different Panthers came up with an RBI.

Trevor Montgomery and Jared Storment scored two runs apiece.

Greenville posted single runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before delivering the knockout blow with three runs in the seventh.

C.J. Opp raised his record to 4-3 with six innings of two-hit baseball. He struck out two and walked two.

It took 10 innings in the second game as the Panthers relinquished a 7-1 lead and allowed Eureka to push across two runs in the bottom of the ninth to force the game into extra innings.

Travis Ralls collected three hits in five at bats and drove home two runs.

Tim Osborne, Montgomery, and Dalton McFarland posted two hits. Osborne, Jesse Getz, Montgomery, and Max Gabriel all scored twice.

Phillip Reedy had a solid start for Greenville as he went five innings and gave up one run on one hit and three walks.

Nick Bifano (2-2) was the winning pitcher despite giving up two runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Panthers (12-14, 10-4 SLIAC) host Fontbonne on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader.
