Baseball tops Washington - St. Louis in second of two games

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The baseball team split their doubleheader with Washington - St. Louis on Saturday as the Panthers lost the first game 10-6 before winning the second game 1-0.

Both teams traded runs in the second inning of game one before Greenville put five runs on the scoreboard in the top of the third.

The Bears answered with three runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game. Washington got four runs in the bottom of the sixth to win the game.

Tim Osborne went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.

Mike Hardin homered in the third inning.

Starting pitcher Dillon Reel threw three innings in the start, allowing four runs on seven hits.

Reliever Michael Wittmer was the losing pitcher with four runs allowed in the sixth.

Greenville scored the game's only run in the fifth inning as Jordan Yakel and Nick Bifano combined to shut out Washington's high-powered offense.

Jesse Getz had a run-scoring single for Greenville.

Yakel (1-1) went five innings in his first start, only allowing four hits and three walks.

Bifano recorded his seventh save with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Panthers (19-18) will compete in the SLIAC tournament on Thursday afternoon.
