Baseball’s Covert, Hobar, & Massengill Headline SLIAC Award Winners

ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) has announced the All-Conference Teams and award winners for the 2011 baseball season. Greenville Colleges Daniel Covert, Kyle Hobar, and David Massengill headlined the honorees, all claiming a spot on the conference first-team.

Covert, a 6-5 senior from Trenton, Ill., was named All-SLIAC first team outfielder. Covert led the SLIAC in batting average (.398), and finished second in homers (7), RBI (43), total bases (85), and slugging pct. (.638).

Germantown, Tennessee product Kyle Hobar was also named to the SLIAC first team. The senior was fourth in the conference in runs (41), third in hits (53), and first in doubles (15).

Rounding out the first team selections was senior David Massengill. The utility player Massengill finished fifth in the SLIAC in batting (.379), third in on base pct. (.483), and first in runs (48) and hits (55). Aside from his work at the plate the Neoga, Ill. native also was a force from the mound. Massengill finished the year with a record of 6-2 and finished third in ERA, posting a 2.35 average. He also led the conference in against batting average (1.90) and allowed no homers against on the year.

Greenville catcher Adam Wallace was named to the SLIAC sportsmanship team for his actions and play throughout the season.
