Blackburn’s Early Leads Doom Baseball in Double-Header

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. The Beavers of Blackburn College (9-13, 5-3 SLIAC) escaped Greenville baseball on Saturday, compounding runs from the outset and serving the Panthers the 4-2, 10-9 sweep.

Junior outfielder Cole Lawson headlined the Panthers efforts offensively in the weekend double-dip, batting 3-for-8 with four runs and two RBI in the sweep.

In game ones 4-2 edging, freshman lefty Cody Hinterscher was charged the loss. Hinterscher pitched three innings while surrendering four earned on two hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

GC used nearly all-available arms in the 10-9 heartbreaking capper, tossing five different individuals in the loss. Freshman Tyler Pilcher was dealt the defeat on the mound as his two-inning, six earned run performance qualified him for the decision.

With the pair of defeats GC baseball falls to 5-14 and 3-3 in the SLIAC and will look to get back on track on Friday, April 6 as they begin the first of another three-game conference set with MacMurray.
