Bowl Bound! Football To Play in NCCAA Victory Bowl

GREENVILLE, Ill. – Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Panthers finish the regular season on a high note and look to knock off NAIA Campbellsville University in the annual Victory Bowl.

Greenville College will play guest to the Tigers of CU for the 2011 National Christian College Athletics (NCCAA) crown this Saturday, Nov. 19 at Finley Stadium in Campbellsville, Ky.  Kickoff time is set for 1 p.m. ET.

NCAA Division III Greenville College (7-3, 7-2 UMAC) makes its third appearance in the NCCAA championship finale. 2009 saw the Panthers fall to Geneva College, 29-28, and a battle against Northwestern (Minn.) in 2000 ended in a 35-27 defeat.

After stumbling out of the gates 0-3 in 2011, Greenville fought the up-hill battle to an impressive 7-3 finish. A 50-12 rout of conference foe Crown College in week four helped jumpstart a lax offense, and gave confidence to a struggling defense.

After back-to-back blowouts in weeks five and six, the Panthers showed their resolve in a tight 36-33 road win over a rising Eureka program. After another convincing Dome Day win over Minnesota-Morris, the Panthers used a thrilling last-second touchdown to push past Northwestern 27-23 and keep their post-season hopes alive. The Panthers closed their regular season Saturday at Presentation College (S.D.) with a 41-17 win.

Offensively, Greenville looks to sophomore signal caller Brendan Chambers to energize the attack. The California product has rushed for over 1200 yards and notched 19 touchdowns in his 2011 campaign while adding 1535 yards through the air and another 16 scores.

Defensively, the Panthers act as a balanced unit in the 3-4 scheme. Utilizing a four-linebacker unit, sophomore LB Cody Lopez and junior ILB Kiso Faletufuga lead the squad in tackles with 81 and 77 respectively. The tandem also tops the team in sacks with Lopez posting 2.5 sacks and Faletufuga notching a team high three.

Greenville’s opponent, NAIA Campbellsville University football (6-5), will appear in the game for the second time in its four-year membership of the NCCAA. The Tigers traveled to North Greenville University (S.C.) last year for the game, falling 42-16 to the rising NCAA Division II program.

Campbellsville enters the week having won its last three games after dropping four straight mid-season games. The Fighting Tigers defeated West Virginia Tech at home Saturday, 32-23 to wrap up its third-straight winning record for a regular season.

The game will be televised on WLCU-TV on Comcast Cable channel 10 in Taylor County and will be streamed live online. Also, radio coverage of the game will be provided locally by WLCU 88.7 FM ( and by WGRN 89.5 ( in Greenville, Ill.
