CARES Act Reporting Update

Since the impact of COVID-19, the leadership team at Greenville University has been working on a financial assistance plan for all traditional students. The Department of Education (DOE) provided emergency relief funds to cover eligible expenses to students who have been negatively affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The institution signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. Greenville University received a total of $957,352 through the CARES Act with $478,676 designated directly for students.

The University has 600 eligible students under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, and those students received $514,706. Each grant was calculated by reviewing a variety of factors including room, board, and financial need that was indicated on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Students who have experienced severe financial hardship due to the coronavirus will also receive assistance made possible by GU’s Deacon’s Fund. Examples include but are not limited to sickness, loss of income, and death in the family, etc. To apply for assistance from the Deacon’s Fund, please send an email to deaconsfund@greenville.edu with detailed information about your circumstances and specific need. A stewardship committee will review all requests and distribute funds as they deem appropriate.
