Community: Tearing Down the Walls of Jericho

Published: April 13, 2021

Inspired by the Biblical account in the book of Joshua detailing the Lord's plan for giving over the city of Jericho to the Israelites, Greenville College students, faculty and staff took a seven day "Jericho Walk" around the walls of campus.

Students, faculty and staff walked around the perimeter of campus for seven days during interterm with faith that the Lord would break down the "walls" on campus and in the lives of the Greenville College community. "The walk was not about taking siege of the college, but rather taking siege over the life God has blessed us with, carrying blessings to others, and inheriting all that He has for us in this season," explained Elijah Tiggs, one of the students in charge of the walk. Following the Biblical account, participants walked around campus once a day for the first six days, and seven times on the seventh day.

"As second semester begins, I am praying for God's presence to be more evident in His people," explained Tiggs. "My experience at GC has placed me in the position on staff with Greenville Student Outreach to promote an event like this. If there is one thing I've learned while at Greenville, it's that community is a virtue; what better than a community to reflect their creator through faith in action such as this."

The "Jericho Walk" is not the first student initiative of its kind. Greenville College continues to empower its students to be obedient followers of Christ through annual student-lead activities like AgapeFest, Vespers, and Without Ceasing, as well as new activities each year. Join the Greenville College community in prayer as the new semester begins.
