Extending Our Heritage, Expanding Our Reach: Greenville College Announces Transition to Greenville University

Greenville College is pleased to announce that, at their recent meeting in November, the Greenville College Board of Trustees unanimously approved to transition the institutions name from Greenville College to Greenville University. Greenville College will celebrate its new identity as Greenville University on September 20, 2017, also marking the 125th anniversary of the institutions first convocation ceremony in 1892. The official 1,000-day countdown to this historic event begins Christmas Day 2014.

While there is much to celebrate in this transition, our identity as a university is not our ultimate goal; our goal is to use that identity to extend our heritage and expand our reach to new generations of students, explains Greenville College President, Dr. Ivan Filby. Our future identity as Greenville University will clarify our expansion with growing graduate programs and growing global reach, helping us better narrate the mission of our institution to provide a transformational, Christ-centered educational experience that empowers, enriches and endures for generations.

Greenville College provides a quality liberal arts education for over 1,400 students. The College offers over 50 traditional undergraduate majors on campus and 15 adult and graduate programs available online, on campus and at partnership locations.

Accompanying this transition is President Filbys announcement of Greenville Colleges Strategic Plan, outlining the institutions vision for the next five years, including its transition to Greenville University. The plan includes intentions to develop new academic programs in science, technology, engineering and math subjects, health studies, business and digital technology; the facilitation of efficient and shorter degree completion times; and enhanced opportunities to emphasize learning outside of the classroom. The plan can be viewed on the Greenville College website at greenville.edu/plan.
