Future Teachers Benefit from GC's Stretch

For more than a century, GC has thoroughly prepared teachers for service in the classroom. Here are five new ways that future teachers can benefit from the School of Education's extended reach.
GC in Springfield Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, Illinois, is the fifth institution to partner with Greenville College as part of GCs Undergraduate Teacher Education Partnership (UTEP) program. UTEP partnerships enable non-resident students to engage in GCs teacher education program by attending classes close to where they live.
GC in Chicago GC students can now complete their required semester of student teaching in Chicago Public Schools. This expanded urban option speaks to the passion many GC students hold for social justice and service. They benefit by integrating their hearts call with the vocation of teaching.
Expanded study options off campus College graduates with a bachelor of science can now complete a masters program and work toward an elementary teachers license at one of GCs partner campuses. This redesign of GCs Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program benefits students by meeting new requirements established by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Added certification in character education GCs teacher education program now includes certification in character education through Character Plus, a national organization that works to develop positive character traits in youth. The School of Education has integrated the 25-hour training into the Learning Environments course, required of all prospective teachers. Future teachers hone valuable skills and earn certification to gain a competitive edge in the job market.
GC represented on state panel On December 7, the Illinois State Board of Education announced that Mark Lamb, dean of GCs School of Education, would serve on its Deans Advisory Panel. Lamb will assist to implement a new data collection program used by the State to accredit teacher preparation programs. Students benefit when someone in the know guides programming in their institution.
