GC Choir to Sing in Canton and Peoria, IL on November 16 and 17

The Greenville College Choir (Greenville, Illinois) will sing at 6:00 p.m. concert on Saturday, November 16 at Wesley United Methodist Church (120 North Avenue A, Canton, Illinois). Special guests for the concert will be the Canton High School Madrigal Singers under the direction of Tony Militello. On Sunday, Nov. 17, the Greenville College Choir will sing in the 8:30 a.m. worship service at First United Methodist Church (116 NE Perry Avenue, Peoria, IL) and the 11:00 a.m.. worship service at University United Methodist Church (2818 N University Street, Peoria, IL). The Choir will return to First United Methodist Church that afternoon to perform a 4:00 p.m. concert. Special guests for the afternoon concert will be the Washington Community High School Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Lara Reem. Founded in 1927 by Dr. Robert W. Woods, the Greenville College Choir has attained a widespread reputation for performing sacred choral music of the highest quality.

During the current 87th Anniversary year, the Greenville College Choir will be touring in the Midwestern United States. The Choirs tour program includes music from England, Ireland, France, Germany, Poland and America. In the past two years the Greenville College Choir has been invited to perform with the Kingsbury Ensemble (one of the Midwests premier professional early music ensembles), as well as at the Illinois Music Educators Conference and the American Choral Directors Associations Central Division Convention. The Choir regularly joins with the Greenville Choral Union for concerts of larger choral-orchestral works such as Bachs Magnificat, Mozarts Requiem, and the annual Christmas performance of Handels Messiah.

The Greenville Choir consists of 49 undergraduate students from various fields of liberal arts study, including the Colleges five music degree programs. As the flagship choral ensemble of Greenville College, the choir presents as many as twenty off-campus performances each year as part of its annual tour. Students dedication to the program is consistently made evident by the professional quality of their performances.

Conductor Jeffrey S. Wilson received his Bachelor of Music degree in piano from Augustana College (Rock Island, Illinois). He earned the Master of Music degree in choral music and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in choral conducting and literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Wilson has served as conductor of the choir since 1996.
