Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. - This fall, hundreds of teams from around the country will be participating in the Dig Pink National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally. High School and college teams have been promoting breast health education in the community as well as raising funds to help eradicate breast cancer.

Dig Pink will come to Greenville, Ill., and Greenville College on Friday, Oct. 15, as the Lady Panthers host the Lewis and Clark Lady Trailblazersat 4:30 p.m. in a junior varsity matchand the MacMurray College Lady Highlanders at 7 p.m. in a varsity match. Both matches are scheduled forH.J. Long Gymnasium.

The events mark the annual Homecomingfestivities for the volleyball team. In addition, the seniors will be honored. Fans are encouraged to arrive early.

Before, during, and after thematches, there will be door prizes, giveaways, cotton candy, t-shirts, and much more. The first 50 fans will receive a Pink Panthers backpack. Dig Pink attendees will watch the girls compete on the court while contributing to breast health awareness by making a statement and wearing something pink in the stands. In addition, the players from both teams will be wearing pink uniforms. Admission is free.

Dig Pink event t-shirts will be sold at the match or by contacting the Greenville College volleyball office. This year the event is offering a memorial wall where individuals will be able to buy a ribbon to place in honor or in memory of people who have found themselves a victim of breast cancer. In addition, fans will be allowed to purchase pink ribbons to wear at the event.

The proceeds from all donations will benefit the Side-Out Foundation. The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c)(3) located in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for breast cancer research nationally through volleyball tournaments, clinics, and rallies.

Their name underscores the purpose of the organization - a "Side-Out" in volleyball occurs when one team wins a point while its opponent is serving, thereby regaining serve or control of play. Likewise in the war against breast cancer, the Side-Out Foundation will support health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men with this dreaded disease thus enabling those affected to regain control of their lives and living them to the fullest.
