Greenville Chamber of Commerce & Greenville College Unveil New Internship Program

Greenville College and the Greenville Chamber of Commerce are partnering on a program that will place students in local businesses as interns.The program was first proposed by a group of Greenville College seniors as part of their COR 401 Capstone project as way of promoting internships to GC students at local businesses.After conducting interviews, the COR 401 group who proposed this project fund that most students on campus weren't aware of the internships available with local businesses. They also found that students were interested in applying to internships with Greenville businesses if they knew about those opportunities. The Internship program between the Chamber of Commerce and GC was created to bridge that gap.
Patrick Miller, Associate Dean for Career and Calling at GC, and John Goldsmith, Greenville Chamber of Commerce executive director, built upon the COR groups groundwork and unveiled the internship program at a breakfast on Thursday, February 19 at the Bradford Community Building, attended by Chamber of Commerce businesses interested in participating in the program. Miller explained, The purpose of this internship program is to integrate academic learning with a planned and supervised work experience at a Chamber member business. Any student in any major, or those undeclared, may enroll in any internship.The internship may be paid or unpaid as determined by the host business.
Goldsmith believes the internship program can provide employers with a resource for staff to assist with short-term and immediate range needs, as well as seasonal and special projects. This also strengthens the relationship between Greenville businesses and Greenville College, its faculty and students, said Goldsmith.
