Greenville College Announces Degree Program in Engineering

Greenville College Engineering Major

Beginning fall 2016, Greenville College will offer a program of studies leading toward a bachelor of science in engineering.

“Part of our mission is to make sure we provide salt and light to all professions,” said President Ivan Filby. “Engineering is an area that Christian schools are starting to move into. We have great resources to do this, beginning with Dr. Hyung Choi, Dr. Dongxue Zhao, Dr. George Peters and Adjunct Professor Roger Reeves.”

Preparing students for high growth jobs

The four-year program, “Smart Engineering@Greenville College,” is designed to produce competent, future-minded environmentally-conscious engineers. Students can select from three concentrations:

“We’ve tried to identify areas of engineering that are high growth in terms of jobs, but under-represented in terms of available programs,” explained Filby. “For example, not too many schools offer engineering management.”

The GC distinctive

Engineering studies at GC take place in a faith-based environment. “We want our students to be not just engineers; we want them to be well-rounded human beings who carry the presence of Christ,” said Filby.

The advantages of smart engineering

Greenville’s “Smart Engineering” equips today’s students for challenges in three key areas:

  • Strong computing skills – Computers have changed our society and will continue to change it for decades to come. Graduates of this program will emerge skilled at computing in creative design, simulation, manufacturing and life-cycle management.
  • Keen awareness of environment and sustainability They will also understand the challenges of protecting our environment and developing sustainable energy sources.
  • Future-minded – They will acquire a broad perspective and skills that help them lead and adapt in fast-changing technological landscapes.

Greenville College Engineering MajorCareer opportunities for graduates of GC’s program include professional engineer, engineering manager, environmental engineer, civil engineer, mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, software engineer and systems engineer.

Continuing the tradition of successful partnering

GC continues to offer partnership options in engineering studies with University of Illinois and Washington University-St. Louis.

“These are great partnerships with phenomenal success rates,” said Filby. “Our new offering should attract more people into these partnerships too.” Read what participants say.

Records spanning 50 years show that 98% of GC students who participate in engineering partnership programs successfully complete them.
