Greenville College Honors Alumni at Homecoming 2016

Greenville College has announced the winners of its 2016 Alumni Awards. This years honors go to Distinguished Alumnus Stanley Ellis of Indianapolis, IN; Outstanding Young Alumnus Jeff Finley of Indianapolis, IN; Loyalty Awardee Richard Schien of Carlinville, IL; and Briner Salt and Light Awardee Enoch Poon of Tampa, FL.

The College formally recognized the honorees during a Homecoming chapel service on October 21, 2016.

Greenville College Honors Alumni at Homecoming 2016Distinguished Alumnus Stanley Ellis '59 felt a call to teaching during his undergrad years and has successfully impacted students over a long career of classroom teaching. He has served for 16 years on the Wayne Township School Board in Indianapolis. He has won students' choice awards, Teacher of the Year awards, and been a representative for Wayne Township Classroom Teachers Association. He and his wife Jolene (Ochsner '60) became charter members of the John Wesley Free Methodist Church Indianapolis in 1966 and still worship there. They maintain strong ties to GC classmates and faculty, participate in Homecoming and GC fundraising drives, and host student groups visiting the Indianapolis area.

Greenville College Honors Alumni at Homecoming 2016Outstanding Young Alumnus Jeff Finley '96 is the managing editor for Light and Life Magazine of the Free Methodist denomination, as well as an adjuct instructor of journalism for Greenville College. Finley's career began at the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute where he worked as a research assistant, before becoming a statehouse bureau intern reporter for Lee Enterprises. He served as a staff writer, then a managing editor, with Sun-Times Media, and contributed to the blog "What Do We Believe? A sharing of new and views on all things religious." His list of church involvement at his local congregation includes Sunday School teacher, worship team member, board member, ESL supporter, and more.

Loyalty Awardee Richard Schien '62 has demonstrated his loyalty to the College through more than 25 years of service, both on the alumni board and the board of trustees, and through significant financial gifts. He is the founder, president and CEO of Karmak Inc., which offers business management solutions in the commercial transportation industry. Karmak is headquartered in Carlinville, IL. Schien grew Karmak from the ground up through hard work, honesty, and servant leadership. He remains active in his local church and strives for hospitality and generosity in his home. The College was pleased to present him with this honor.

Greenville College Honors Alumni at Homecoming 2016Briner Salt and Light Awardee Enoch Poon '86 exemplifies the value of hard work and dedication to Christ in every area of his multifaceted career. With degrees in mathematics, computer science and law, Poon has founded two companies, Innovative International LLC of Tampa and Amstin LLC, and was named Business Person of the Year at the 2007 International Business Summit in Tampa, Fla. He has worked as an attorney in Louisville, KY and a systems engineer for Humana. Poon invests in GC students through guest lectures at the College's professional business leader's class. He demonstrates an integration of faith and work habits by instructing students to pay attention to others' needs, be responsible with company money, and work hard rather than seek rewards.
